"It’s made for the patient," Stem said. "That’s the benefit. It fits perfectly for every patient."

A few years ago, when it was revealed that J.K. Rowling wrote The Cuckoo’s Calling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, I happened to find out the news pretty early, before a lot of people had heard about it. I did some quick online ordering and I have a first American edition of the book, but I didn’t think to do a search for the UK edition. If I had, I could have gotten a first edition – perhaps even a signed copy, there were a few floating around – for list price. About twelve hours later I realized what I had done, but it was too late.

It’s also nice to write a letter explaining the cookbook and how to use it, along with well wishes for the couple or individual, and place it as the first page of the cookbook.

The way that Heti’s novel — and it is a novel! — was misrepresented and portrayed as, simply and incorrectly, a boring and annoying book about how a woman cannot be both an artist and a mother was both nauseating and kind of the point: You can be boring and annoying and still want a choice.

The term "influential" is up to personal interpretation, but I have to look at the titles we have published that have won the most prestigious awards — I would consider these amongst the most influential the UPK has published. “Explicit and Authentic Acts” by David Kyvig is the most complete and most insightful history of the amendment process and its place in American political life, and it was the winner of the prestigious Bancroft Prize — one of the highest honors awarded to books about diplomacy or the history of the Americas. We also published a book called “The Contested Plains” by Elliott West; this title won both the Francis Parkman Prize, an annual award by the Society of American Historians for the best book in American history, and the Ray Allen Billington Prize, an annual award by the Organization of American Historians for the best book on the American frontier. A strong argument can be made for either one of these books to be the UPK’s most influential.

The Scotts’ deal with HarperCollins is for two books, but Drew said that he and his brother have dozens of ideas.

The Wayward Children series occupies a liminal space in literary classification systems. The books’ teen and even child protagonists mark them as what we might call YA lit, and there are few teens I wouldn’t press them upon. But the voice of their omniscient narrator, who will occasionally pull back from the action to make larger comments about our ideas of morality and “doing good,” is much more mature and mournful, marked by regret. (I’m convinced McGuire is building to some sort of late-in-series reveal about just who this narrator is.) They’re books teens will love that, on some level, can most be appreciated by adults.

The sixth edition (1975), is considered by many to be the best, the “truest” to the book’s vision, the essential Joy, called out on its current website as “the bestselling edition of all time.” The last to be edited by Marion Rombauer Becker, it retains multi-generation flairs, and lots of input from her husband, and son, Ethan Becker. The edition includes a backpacker’s menu as well as a chapter on understanding common ingredients, “a godsend to those of us who started cooking in the days before the internet,” as Dana Veldon wrote in The Kitchn a few years ago. It’s probably this edition that raised the baby boomers, a generation that now remembers it fondly and help to lionize the book that helped them through first Thanksgivings, soirées, and other social intercourses.

On his website, craigsmith.co.nz, Smith identifies himself as a creator of "cruisy, easy listening, children’s and sometimes humorous acoustic music." He has released numerous books and records, including picture stories such as "The Drizzly Bear" and "The Scariest Thing in the Garden."
