That first cookbook has a foreword from Martha Stewart; Ina had a column in her magazine after the book did gangbusters. It reads straightforwardly as an endorsement — and yet, when you look at the actual words, they assemble themselves, as so much does in Martha’s world, into some kind of menace, an alpha act of undermining. Martha writes: "It took a while, but I finally understood what motivated Ina, realizing that here was a true kindred spirit with really similar but unique talents." The revival of print means the publishing industry is no longer being consumed by the battle between the two channels. “The real focus for the industry as a whole is how we preserve time for reading,” said Tamblyn.

We were saddened to learn last week of the death of Jay Kislak, an extraordinary collector and a generous philanthropist to several libraries, including the Library of Congress and the Kislak Center for Special Collections at the University of Pennsylvania. He also provided the financial backing for the National Collegiate Book Collecting Contest. Kislak was 96.

“Traditional publishers are setting the prices, which limits our ability as a retailer to discount or run price promotions,” he said. “One of the things that attracts people to ebooks is their affordability and people’s ability to take that pound they have for reading and stretch it further. Previously a book that a publisher would have published at £10.99 we could have sold for £7.99. What we like to see is a nice healthy distance between a print book and an ebook. It’s usually still the case but often isn’t as wide as we would like it to be.”

Check out the options for adding or reducing the number of pages or swapping to a different template. Some templates let you change the number of pages without having to delete or add pictures, although you may need to adjust the number of images on some pages. Some programs only allow you to insert or delete pages one at a time, while others limit this function to double page spreads.

The books will be available for sale and the original watercolor illustrations will be for sale as well. And, in honor of the book publication, one of the area’s favorite bands, The Librarians (Corrie Gant, Julie Hawthorne and Crystal Landucci) have agreed to re-assemble to perform Rossini’s playful "Cat Cantata." There will also be Baroque music with Connolly on flute and Landucci playing the piano owned by Oregon Bay Properties owners Herb and Brooke Yussim one more time before the piano is headed back to California.
