MERGERS Signet combines bookbinders Signet LLC, the Akron private investment firm, is merging its Cleveland-headquartered bookbinder Finish Line Binderies with a onetime competitor. As part of the merger, Signet will operate the Cleveland company and Nashville operation BindTech under the BindTech LLC name. Signet purchased BindTech in 2017. It has owned Finish Line, which is a trade bindery, since 2000. No financial details of Signet’s 2017 purchase of BindTech or the subsequent merger of the two operations are being disclosed. Established in 1937 in Cleveland, Finish Line Binderies is a trade bindery and works with printers of trade publications and other products, including textbooks and cookbooks. It specializes in mechanical binding (double wire, plastic coil and spiral wire). The operation in Nashville specializes in hardcover binding (adhesive and sewn) and mechanical binding. Employment at the Nashville division totals 100; about 75 people work at the Cleveland division. MANUFACTURING WRWP buys Stow operation WRWP, a Twinsburg-based manufacturer and distributor of wire harnesses, cables and custom components, announced Monday that it has purchased the assets of J&S Products, Inc., a Stow-based supplier of heavy machinery interface cables, signal wiring harnesses and kitting of electrical and mechanical accessories. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. “This acquisition will introduce us to a new industry and grow our sales with some products that J&S did not offer in the past,” said Kevin Miller, president and CEO of WRWP. “J&S Products is a good complement to our business,” he added. BANKING Westfield consolidates offices Westfield Bank is combining its two Cuyahoga Falls locations into one new office this fall. The new site at 2875 State Road in the Portage Crossing shopping plaza will bring together the staffs of the Portage Trail and Graham Road branches, according to a news release from Westfield Bank. The new office will open Oct. 22. The facility at Portage Crossing, formerly Huntington Bank, will be upgraded and redesigned. Overall retail sales rose 6.4 percent in July from a year ago, and sales from nonstore retailers, which include online merchants, soared nearly 9 percent, according to the Commerce Department. The National Retail Federation was upbeat about the July numbers. At the same time, the NRF was wary about the possibility that trade tariffs imposed by the United States against China, Canada, Mexico, India, Turkey and European countries and those nation’s retaliatory taxes would in time hurt consumer spending. Lorraine Hariton becomes CEO at Catalyst in an era when the #MeToo movement has ensnared major corporations and, with exit of PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi serving as a reminder, the top jobs at the nation’s largest companies remain elusive for women.
